Don't tell me to just breathe.

If you’ve found yourself on this webpage, you’ve likely been through a battery of doctor ordered tests to try and figure out “what is wrong with you” or, you are Googling your symptoms in an attempt to self diagnose what is happening in your body and mind.

Did the tests come back negative?

The pounding heart, excessive sweating, upset stomach, headache, muscle tension, insomnia and shortness of breath isn’t caused by a tumor, clogged artery, or some other strange affliction. The test results all came back negative.

Then the doctor says “maybe you just have anxiety.”

And right then, the shame, blame, and guilt step in and the walls go up.

Whether you have a family history of anxiety and are scared of repeating a pattern, see anxiety as an affliction of the weak and undermotivated, or just don’t believe that anxiety could cause the physical symptoms you’re experiencing, being diagnosed with anxiety or showing anxiety related symptoms is not a sign of weakness.

It’s a sign of being human. Part of being human is that we don’t have all the answers. We don’t know the answer to all of the “what if” questions that keep us up at night. We can catastrophize and run through all the possible scenarios in life and still not feel prepared for what actually will happen. Anxiety tells us that we don’t know what to do next, that we should be afraid, that we should be in control, that being wrong is embarrassing and that the unknown is scary.

Anxiety keeps us stuck.

Anxiety keeps us quiet.

Anxiety makes us feel not good enough.

Anxiety is a liar.

Anxiety can be tamed and lived with if treated properly.

1 in 5 adults in the US is affected by anxiety every year. Yet only 36% of those suffering receive treatment.

Small steps today for a less anxious tomorrow.

At Rise Up, we think people don’t want to be told to be Zen and just breathe. We think people want to be heard, to be seen, to be validated and then be empowered to put their life on a track that is their vision of success. We see high energy, driven adults and children who are seeking strength, empowerment and personal autonomy. With Rise Up, the space given to anxiety in a person’s life is held, but filled with identity formation, confidence and a more secure sense of self.
